Congratulations; Montana Completes Successful Sea Trials

Published February 4, 2022

Shipbuilders,

It’s been a milestone year so far for our submarine programs, and for the “Big Sky” state. Last month we redelivered USS Helena to the U.S. Navy, and today, I am happy to report the Virginia-class submarine Montana has successfully completed alpha sea trials.

Alpha trials represent the very first time a ship gets underway to do what she was designed and built to do, including submerging for the first time and performing high-speed maneuvers on the surface and under water.

The sea trials team – comprised of shipbuilders, Montana crew and Navy leadership – rides the submarine with full confidence in the quality of our work. They trust our 136-year standard of “Always Good Ships” – a standard that we have the privilege of continuing on every submarine and aircraft carrier we design, build and maintain.

Thank you to all shipbuilders whose quality work has helped us reach these important milestones.

As you watch this video, which is available on our NNS to Go app, MyNNS, HII’s YouTube Channel or my Facebook page, be proud of the work you do to protect the women and men of the U.S. Navy as they defend our great nation.

Respectfully,
