Shipbuilders Attend the ModSim World Conference
Published September 17, 2025
Shipbuilders from Newport News Shipbuilding’s Modeling and Simulation team (X23) presented ModSim capabilities at the NNS booth during the 17th Annual International ModSim World Conference in Norfolk from Aug. 18 to 20.
This year’s theme, Forging the Future: Bridging the Gaps through Modeling and Simulation, underscored the vital role that modeling and simulation plays in solving complex challenges across technology, manufacturing and workforce development. Over the three-day period, shipbuilders engaged with booth visitors and attended keynotes, expert panels, paper sessions and immersive exhibits designed to foster innovation and collaboration.
“ModSim World was a great opportunity to network with other modeling and simulation professionals, learn about the latest advancements in the field and continue our professional growth. Modeling and simulation continues to be an impactful field, and this event gave us meaningful insight into the current efforts in defense, training and education, and industry growth,” said Stephanie Parker (X23), a modeling and simulation engineer.
Jack Curtis (X23) is a co-op on the ModSim team. “Before starting my co-op, I did not know anything about the field, but this conference helped illuminate its potential. So many companies were utilizing models and simulations to help bring down costs of production and improve safety training. The highlight of the event was when Congressman Bobby Scott stopped by the HII-NNS booth to meet our team and learn more about how we are developing programs to support the shipyard,” he said.
