Access Center Shutdown Information
Published December 13, 2023
The Access Center will close for the Newport News Shipbuilding’s holiday shutdown at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20. Temporary badges will be issued for any current employee or visitor who has lost, forgotten or damaged their badge at the 37th Street gate during this closure.
Please ensure that any visitors sponsored by your department are aware of this closure and the expiration date on their badge. Visitors with an expiration date between Wednesday, Dec. 20, and Tuesday, Jan. 2, will be permitted to pick up their badges any time prior to closing on Dec. 20. A new visit request must be submitted in the Visitor Management System (VMS), and a copy of their required documentation (background check certificate) is needed.
Temporary drive-in access will not be granted for expired drive-in tags. An NN9297 must be submitted and the new tag picked up for any visitor who needs drive-in access during the shutdown.
The Access Center will reopen at 6 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2. Expect high traffic volume during the first few days after the shutdown as the office works to service employees and visitors as quickly as possible.
If you have any questions or emergent badging needs during shutdown or upon return, contact Daryl Hagwood at 757-869-9098 or Natalie Joyner at 757-504-6615 for assistance.
