Anchors “Away”

Published June 29, 2021

Shipbuilders and U.S. Navy sailors from USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) worked together to remove two 30-ton anchors earlier this month as part of CVN 74’s refueling and complex overhaul at Newport News Shipbuilding.

Work to remove the anchors involved shipbuilders from X36, X32 and X70. Shipbuilders will now remove the paint from the anchors and chains, check for and repair any defects, and repaint the anchors and chains before reinstalling them.
