Published November 4, 2026
Newport News Shipbuilding’s Culture & Engagement Office is hosting the 11th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration on Tuesday, Jan. 12.
Themed “Highlighting the Dream,” this event will kick-off the week-long commemoration. Vernon Eason (O61), director of general manufacturing, is the keynote speaker.
Hosted across all three shifts, these in-person events are ticketed and open to all shipbuilders. Attendees must register in advance to receive a ticket. Events will be held at The Apprentice School (Bldg. 1919) at the following times:
- 5:30 a.m. (third shift)
- 11 a.m. (first shift)
- 7 p.m. (second shift)
Transportation will be provided with a travel time charge. To register, go to the MLK Celebration page on MyNNS by Dec. 18. Supervisors must register shipbuilders who do not have computer access.
Due to high attendance and limited capacity, shipbuilders with computer access who wish to attend the first shift event must sign up for the 11a.m. virtual option.
