In early January, the Columbia-Class Submarine Program at Newport News Shipbuilding celebrated the joining of two modules that comprise the stern for the first-in-class District of Columbia (SSBN 826).

As the first module join for the Columbia-class construction effort, this was a significant achievement for the program. The team pictured was instrumental in executing this first-of-a-kind evolution for SSBN 826.

“I’m extremely proud of the team’s ability to complete this first-of-class milestone and achieve our first quarter 2023 operational commitment,” said X62 Superintendent Jamie Devanny. “They overcame a lot of obstacles and proved that hard jobs can be done right and safely.”
