Corporate Citizenship and ERGs Support Nonprofits

Published July 31, 2024

Each year, Corporate Citizenship partners with the company’s 11 employee resource groups (ERGs) to contribute to local nonprofits that reflect Newport News Shipbuilding’s values and make Hampton Roads a more inclusive, equitable and diverse region.

Literacy for Life was among the organizations selected by two ERGs that received a grant. In addition to the core services of reading, writing, math and English, Literacy for Life provides career development services, teaches basic computer skills, mentors adults to better understand and develop financial health, and assists low-literate adults to understand medical terms and navigate the medical system.

The grants allow NNS to make diversity and inclusion a key focus of philanthropy and supports causes that are important to ERG members.

“One of the greatest things our ERGs can do to create a sense of community is through our philanthropy partnership with Corporate Citizenship,” said Danyelle Saunders, manager of EEO and Diversity. “Many of our employees, family members and friends benefit when we support local nonprofit organizations that serve the community.”
