Today is an exciting day for our Newport News Shipbuilding team, USS George Washington’s (CVN 73) crew and our nation. I’m happy to report that CVN 73 has been redelivered to the U.S. Navy.

I spent several days aboard CVN 73 this week as she was put to the test. She performed well and the camaraderie that I witnessed between shipbuilders and the crew was exceptional. Following successful sea trials, Washington returned to Naval Station Norfolk this afternoon.

As we approach Memorial Day, please take time to remember and honor our partners and America’s heroes who have made the ultimate sacrifice to defend our freedoms. I hope you will also reflect on your heroic role as a Newport News shipbuilder and remember that what you do matters – for the safety of our community, our nation and our nation’s military women and men.
