Do You Have a Project Idea for Research and Development?

Published May 27, 2026

Newport News Shipbuilding has begun a continuous call for proposals. Ideas can now be submitted on the Research and Development website.

The current campaign is for National Shipbuilding Research Program (NSRP) panel project ideas and will run through June 19. Panel projects are 12-month projects that are $200,000 or less in effort. Any proposals for research, development and implementation of relevant technologies or improved processes for the shipbuilding and ship repair enterprise should be submitted for the NSRP funding consideration.

Research and Development projects that lead to full implementation into shipbuilding operations are desirable. The website lists a series of success stories that could prove instructive for potential submitters. For example, E32 has made strides toward qualifying types of fittings created using additive manufacturing, reducing lead times and possible shortages that can occur if those same fittings are manufactured through conventional means.

Information regarding this solicitation, specific focus areas and the panel project white papers format can be found at www.nsrp.org.
