EH&S Managers Get Pie in the Face for a Good Cause

Leaders from Environmental Health and Safety (O27) at Newport News Shipbuilding recently ended up with pie on their faces, but for a good cause.

The O27 Engagement, Diversity and Inclusion (ED&I) Champion Team hosted a food drive to support the THRIVE Peninsula Food Pantry. The department was broken up into teams that competed to fill bins of food. Each team was ranked by the amount they donated. Based on those rankings, each team was given a certain number of pies to throw at an O27 manager of their choice.

Overall, shipbuilders donated more than 1,100 items or 830 pounds of food during the drive. On Thursday, shipbuilders watched as managers lined up outside Bldg. 79 at lunchtime for their turn to take a pie to the face for the cause.

“The O27 ED&I team was excited to be able to run an event that supported families in the community while also engaging members throughout the department,” said Jessica Neese. “We are thankful to everyone who participated and can’t wait to put on more events in the future.”
