General Dynamics Electric Boat held a keel laying for Virginia-class submarine Tang (SSN 805) earlier this month.

During the ceremony, Electric Boat shipbuilder Alison Fasulo welded the initials of Ship’s Sponsor Mimi Donnelly onto a plate to be attached to the submarine. Donnelly is the daughter-in-law, wife and mother of U.S. Navy submariners. She was accompanied at the ceremonies by her husband, retired Vice Adm. Jay Donnelly.

SSN 805 will be the third U.S. Navy ship to carry the name Tang. Thousands of shipbuilders at Electric Boat and Newport News Shipbuilding are working to build the 32nd Virginia-class submarine.
