Engagement, Diversity and Inclusion Week is Sept. 11-15

Newport News Shipbuilding’s Engagement, Diversity and Inclusion (ED&I) Week is Sept. 11-15. This year’s theme is “Because ‘YOU’ MATTER.” ED&I Week is a time for employees to come together to learn about the importance of engaging with one another, learning about diversity and including everyone.

During ED&I Week, there will be opportunities highlight well-being, gain insight on embracing diversity and inclusion, as well as networking and professional development. Shipbuilders should also be on the lookout for E&DI Meet and Greet Pop Ups throughout the week.

ED&I Week activities include:

  • Sept. 12
    6-7 a.m. or 4-5 p.m.
    Calling all leaders in the foreman role. Senior leaders across the enterprise are interested in investing in you. Come out to one of two sessions and glean from their experiences, lessons learned and best practices to help build, strengthen and enhance your leadership skills. We appreciate you and want you to be successful in all you do. Register no later than Sept. 11.
  • Sept. 13
    4:30-6 p.m.
    Join the African American Shipbuilders Association (AASA) and the Engineering and Design ED&I Champion team for MIXXEDFIT with Mark. MIXXEDFIT is a people-inspired fitness program that combines explosive dance movements with bodyweight toning and we want to encourage your physical wellbeing by getting your bodies moving and your heart rates pumping. This event will take place in the NetCenter Atrium and is open to all employees. Wear comfortable clothes, shoes you can move in and bring your water bottle and a towel.   • Sept. 14
    11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
    A Food Truck Roundup for ED&I Week and to kick off Hispanic Heritage Month will be held in the southwest parking lot at Bldg. 902. Don’t miss this chance to grab some food and hang out with fellow shipbuilders while supporting these vendors: Caribbean Sun splash, Chick Fil-A, Empañada Workshop, Mission BBQ and Sweet Frog.   • Sept. 14
    4:30-6 p.m.
    “Creating Safe Spaces at Work and Home” will feature panelists from Shipbuilders Together Realizing Inclusion, Diversity and Equity (STRIDE) and Inclusion and Diversity, along with special guest Shawn Patrick McNulty from Parents and Families/Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG). Join us at B-888 (Brooks Crossing) conference room or online as we discuss the impact of creating a welcoming environment for everyone.
