The Professional Enhancement and Enrichment Rotation (PEER) Program is hosting a learn at lunch WebEx event for potential candidates from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. The program is open to salaried individual contributors. MARCH 28

Join HOLA for a collaboration with Bachata Vida Dance Company. Whether you’re an experienced dancer or just starting out, the beginner class will begin from 8-9 p.m. From 9 p.m. -12 a.m., there will be a social to practice your dance moves. Admission is $7 if you sign up at bachatavida.com (open on your personal device and outside of NNS networks) and choose the March 28 Thursday Night event, or $10 at the door.

Spear and Gear Toastmasters welcomes all shipbuilders to a virtual meeting at 6 p.m. Toastmasters is a safe and welcoming environment for those seeking to enhance their communication and leadership skills.

Come out and meet the new African American Shipbuilders Association (AASA) board, hear what we have in store for 2024 and network with fellow shipbuilders while enjoying some friendly competition with games and door prizes. Blaque Bistro is located nearby at 5014 Jefferson Ave. in Newport News. Food will be available for purchase. Register on MyNNS or contact Michelle Pope at 757-688-4556. There is no charge to participate, and the event is open to all NNS employees.


APRIL 1 – MAY 27

The 2025 nomination period will open from April 1- May 27 for the following diversity conferences: Black Engineer of the Year (BEYA), Women Make America (WMA), Women of Color (WOC), Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers (SASE), Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) and Society of Women Engineers (SWE). The American Red Cross has launched a nationwide emergency appeal for blood and platelet donors. You can help. Many slots are still available for these blood drives. Please sign up today to ensure that blood supplies are available in our community. There is an urgent need for type O donors. To schedule an appointment: Register at www.redcrossblood.org and use code NNSB520 in the search field. Use the Blood Donor American Red Cross app. Enter code NNSB520 to locate the drive, register and complete the RapidPass check-in on the day of the event.

Program and Asian Shipbuilders Including All Nationalities (ASIAN) are co-hosting an after-work presentation with Jason Sutton, vice president and chief information officer, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9, in the VASCIC Auditorium. The event is open to all employees by reservation only. Sign up by April 4 on the L.E.A.R.N. website. Both in-person and virtual options are available. However, it is recommended to attend in person. APRIL 12

The Apprentice Alumni Association will celebrate the Class of 1974 at the Hampton Roads Convention Center at 5 p.m. Tickets will be available for purchase starting in March through their website at BuilderAlumni.com.


APRIL 17

Join the NNS Gives team at Coastal Fermentory from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17, as we announce and recognize outstanding NNS volunteers who were nominated by their peers. The event includes an award ceremony, NNS Gives swag and refreshments. In addition, Coastal Fermentory is donating 10% of its sales and 100% of the tips from the evening to United Way of the Virginia Peninsula. All volunteers and shipbuilders are encouraged to attend this event. It is open to the public.

The Columbia-Class Submarine Program is hosting its inaugural golf tournament at Stonehouse Golf Club. The format is four-player captain’s choice with a check in time of 7:30 a.m. and a 9 a.m. shotgun start. Registration is $500 per team and includes green fees and cart, driving range and practice area, welcome bag, and a post-round lunch.
