Go the Extra Mile Challenge: Get a six-week training plan and get ready for the NNS 5K on Sept. 23 or other fall races. SEPTEMBER 2

Join Women in Shipbuilding Enterprise (WiSE) for the 2023 Rosie the Riveter Rally from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at The Apprentice School Stadium, saluting female industrial workers whose jobs support our military and our country. The Rosie the Riveter movement is attributed with increasing the number of employed women by 57% during World War II. The event will feature a Rosie the Riveter costume contest and other activities. Kelli Royals, Miss Virginia America Strong 2022, will be the guest speaker. Register on MyNNS.

SEPTEMBER 12

Leaders in the foreman role are invited to participate in foreman speed mentoring sessions from 6-7 a.m. or from 4-5 p.m. Senior leaders across the enterprise are interested in investing in you. Newport News Shipbuilding will host a Food Truck Roundup from 10:45 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, south of Bldg. 18 near Pier 3. Participating vendors include Latin 2 Soul, Old City BBQ, Sweet Frog and Umami Dogs.

Join the African American Shipbuilders Association (AASA) and the Engineering and Design ED&I Champion team for MIXXEDFIT with Mark from 4:30-6 p.m. MIXXEDFIT is a people-inspired fitness program that combines explosive dance movements with bodyweight toning and we want to encourage your physical wellbeing by getting your bodies moving and your heart rates pumping. This event will take place in the NetCenter Atrium and is open to all employees. Wear comfortable clothes, shoes you can move in and bring your water bottle and a towel. “Creating Safe Spaces at Work and Home” will feature panelists from Shipbuilders Together Realizing Inclusion, Diversity and Equity (STRIDE) and Inclusion and Diversity, along with special guest Shawn Patrick McNulty from Parents and Families/Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG). Join us at Bldg. 888 (Brooks Crossing) in the conference room or online from 4:30-6 p.m. as we discuss the impact of creating a welcoming environment for everyone. Come hear our panel discuss crucial conversation techniques used in real-life situations with moderator Michael Weems (HII corporate), John Sullivan (Ingalls), Karen Figueroa (Ingalls), Julia Jones (vice president of Quality, NNS), Candace Kenner (MT).  This event is open to all HII employees, and no charge number will be provided for attending. The Newport News Shipbuilding 5K will be held Saturday, Sept. 23, at Victory Landing Park. NNS employees, family members and friends are invited to walk, jog or run the 3.1-mile course.
