First Employee Well-Being Day is a Success

Newport News Shipbuilding’s O18 Engagement, Diversity and Inclusion (ED&I) Office, FitNNS, the Veterans Employee Resource Group (VERG), Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) and Benefits partnered with QuadMed to host the first of many Employee Well-being Days at the HII Family Health Center Dec. 1.

The event’s purpose was to bring awareness and action to the importance of employees taking care of their physical well-being through preventative care resources like Know Your Numbers, flu shots and COVID-19 vaccinations and boosters.

Between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m., 43 employees completed the Know Your Numbers screening, 28 received flu shots and 32 received COVID-19 shots. Thirteen employees requested referrals for other health center services, including wellness coaching, nutrition coaching and provider support. This was a first-time experience for some employees. All employees receiving services that day were entered in a QuadMed raffle for a YETI mug. Brian McLaine II, Regina McLean and David King were the raffle winners.

The celebration continued with Food Services at the Food Truck Roundup between the Modular Outfitting Facility (MOF) and the Supplemental Modular Outfitting Facility (SMOF). ED&I Office and ED&I Champion volunteers participated in the event registering employees for membership in employee resource groups (ERGs). Over 40 employees signed up to be a part of at least one of NNS’ 11 ERGs, which help employees fuel their professional, community and social well-being.

The O18 ED&I Office extends sincere gratitude for the support of all advocates for ED&I across the company as they continue to bring awareness, education and action that positively impacts and enables NNS’ workforce for success. Stay tuned for more Employee Well-being events to come in 2023.
