Shipbuilders donated more than 16,100 pounds of food and more than $13,000 to the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank during Newport News Shipbuilding’s annual food drive in November.

Contributions from shipbuilders will provide more than 53,400 meals for people in areas served by the foodbank, including Newport News, Hampton, Williamsburg, James City, Gloucester, Mathews, York, Poquoson and Surry. That represents a more than 5% increase from the 50,661 meals provided during last year’s drive.

“Shipbuilders always give their best, and the outcome is always spectacular. They have the absolute power to rise above any situation and transform it into goodness, especially when supporting the needs of the citizens in our community,” said Judy Fundak (K18). “From the company and community, we would like to say, ‘Another job well done! Thank you!’”
