USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78) – which successfully completed full-ship shock trials earlier this month – returned to Newport News Shipbuilding Friday, Aug. 20, for a six-month planned incremental availability. During the availability, shipbuilders will conduct detailed inspections, assess any damage sustained during the trials, and continue modernization and maintenance work in advance of the ship’s deployment in 2022.
