Giving Back in Style

This year, Newport News Shipbuilding hosted a companywide clothing drive as part of Employee Appreciation Week. The opportunity provided shipbuilders the chance to come together and support the community in a meaningful way.
Throughout the week, shipbuilders donated gently used and new clothing items to unhoused families who have children attending Newport News schools.
“I oversee K-12 outreach through SEEKnns. The goal of the program is to engage and educate students through mentorship and tutoring. This clothing drive is an additional way for shipbuilders to make a meaningful impact in our community,” said Sheryce Moore (K18), a community relations representative.
Clothing drive boxes were placed at turnstiles and in selected outlying buildings. NNS Facilities assisted by picking up donated items and delivering them to be sorted. Nearly 40 60-gallon bags and 15 boxes of clothes, shoes and other items were donated.
“Donating is a great way to give back to the community. Through the clothing drive, we are helping out a lot of families in the Newport News area,” said Tyvelle Williams (O18).
