Newport News Shipbuilding’s School Tools Drive makes a positive impact on students’ lives. Over 4,000 children in the community need help with getting essential school supplies to ensure a successful school year. The drive begins July 21 and runs through Aug. 7.

Shipbuilders are encouraged to join the effort by bringing new, tangible items to any of the donation boxes across the facility, weatherproof yard donation bins located near turnstiles or the silver bin by the Rock. Any shipbuilder can get involved by putting out a donation box and encouraging co-workers to donate.

To support the campaign online, visit the YouGiveGoods campaign page starting July 21 and search Newport News Shipbuilding to donate to a specific agency. Shipbuilders will receive a tax receipt, and items will be delivered directly to their chosen agency.

Newport News schools are requesting clear backpacks this year.

Shipbuilders should pick up donation boxes here:

• Waterfront: Beginning July 14, boxes will be available for pick up inside the new silver donation bin located near the Rock, 24/7.
• Outlying Buildings:
  • From July 14 to Aug. 5, boxes will be available for pick up at NetCenter (Suite 173), from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
  • Donation boxes will also be in the entryway of the suite for self-service from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Donation boxes can be dropped off at Brooks Crossing from Monday, Aug. 10, through Wednesday, Aug. 12.

Schools will receive supplies through these partner agencies: Newport News Department of Social Services; Hampton Social Services; York/Poquoson Social Services; Boys & Girls Clubs of the Virginia Peninsula; ForKids; and An Achievable Dream.
