Help Local Students Succeed

Published July 23, 2025

Newport News Shipbuilding’s annual School Tools Drive is underway and runs through Aug. 8. Children across the area depend on shipbuilders’ generosity to provide the materials they need to succeed in school.

Shipbuilders are encouraged to join the effort by bringing new, tangible items to one of over 200 donation boxes across the facility, yard donation bins located near turnstiles, or the silver bin by the Rock.

To support the campaign online, visit the YouGiveGoods campaign page.

Any shipbuilder can get involved by putting out a donation box and encouraging co-workers to donate. During last year’s drive, Philip Villaverde (E83) reported that groups in E83 and E70 donated 25 boxes, totaling over 7,100 supplies. “The school tools drive is important to help kids be prepared for the academic year,” he said. “We at NNS can help the local children be successful by providing school supplies to those in need.”

Shipbuilders should pick up boxes here:

  • Waterfront: Boxes are available for pick up inside the new silver donation bin located near the Rock, 24/7.
  • Outlying Buildings:
    • Boxes are available for self-service pick up at NetCenter (Suite 173), from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. They are in the entryway of the suite.
    • Boxes can be picked up at NetCenter (Suite 176), from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

There may be some box delivery options for locations outside of the shipyard. Email [email protected] for more information. Do not submit the request through Facilities.
