High School Graduates Making an Impact

Newport News Shipbuilding has hired nearly 150 high school graduates into entry-level trade careers this year. To meet the company’s trades hiring needs, Talent Acquisition supported more than 60 high school recruiting events in North Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia, networking with hundreds of graduating students interested in learning a trade. Students who accepted NNS offers and were hired in 2022 received $1,000 sign-on bonuses and up to $1,500 for relocation. More than 50 high school students were hired into the X18 Welding Department.
“With determination from the entire Talent Acquisition team, and recruiter Nakita Motley (K21) leading our high school student recruiting efforts, NNS has hired more high school graduates this year than ever before,” said Ryan Sparks, manager of trades recruiting for Talent Acquisition. “We are establishing relationships with key high schools to build a steady pipeline of new graduates ready to learn a trade and join our workforce.”
Talent Acquisition will continue participating in high school recruiting events in 2023. Graduating students must be 18 or older and U.S. citizens to work for NNS. Employees are encouraged to share these hiring opportunities.
