Celebrate the nation’s 250th birthday by uniting in the fight against cancer. Newport News Shipbuilding is embracing that patriotic spirit with a flag‑inspired T‑shirt design and this year’s Relay For Life slogan: “Shipbuilder Strong – Fighting Against Cancer.”

NNS is partnering with the American Cancer Society to sponsor the 2026 Peninsula Relay For Life, a community event that brings together cancer survivors, caregivers, volunteers and all who believe in a future free from cancer.

Create a Relay For Life team: It’s easy to get started, and all shipbuilders are encouraged to participate. Anyone can join a team, make a donation, purchase T‑shirts, or contribute to the luminarias that will illuminate the stadium in honor and remembrance of those affected by cancer. Attend the Relay For Life Kick-Off event: The American Cancer Society is hosting a celebration to recognize the top 2025 teams and leaders, and announce the plans for the 2026 campaign. The kickoff is Wednesday, Feb. 25, at Coastal Fermentory from 5-8 p.m.

More than 3 million people around the world take part in Relay For Life events each year, raising funds to support the American Cancer Society’s mission to ensure everyone has the opportunity to prevent, detect, treat and survive cancer.
