Join the Movement: Heart Walk Kickoff at NNS

Published August 26, 2026

Newport News Shipbuilding is stepping up for heart health, and shipbuilders are invited to take the first stride.

On Thursday, Sept. 3, from 4-5 p.m., shipbuilders will gather at Brooks Crossing (Bldg. 888) for the internal Heart Walk kickoff, energizing new and returning team captains and marking the beginning of the 2026 Heart Walk campaign. Teams are forming now, and any shipbuilder can help raise awareness, fund research and save lives.

In partnership with the American Heart Association (AHA), NNS Gives is championing a cause that touches millions. Heart disease and stroke remain the No. 1 and No. 5 killers in the U.S., but together, shipbuilders can change that. The AHA has invested over $5 billion in research, advocated for public health policies and provided essential education and resources to communities nationwide.

Whether you’re a seasoned heat walk participant or new to the cause, there’s a place for every shipbuilder in this campaign. Here’s how to make an impact:

  • Create or join a team: Rally your department, employee resource group or your friend group.
  • Make a donation: Every dollar helps fund critical research and education.
  • Buy a T-Shirt: NNS Heart Walk T-shirts will be available soon. Pre-order yours today.
  • Attend a walk: Choose one of the two locations and represent NNS.
