Mariners’ Museum and Park Offers NNS-Themed Experiences

Published December 17, 2025

If you’re looking for family friendly activities for shutdown, The Mariners’ Museum and Park has created two curated experiences that emphasize Newport News Shipbuilding.

A curated gallery guide highlights NNS objects throughout the museum and their association to the shipyard story. Examples of items visitors can see include the Dorothy builder’s plate and NNS founder Collis P. Huntington’s desk. Visitors can also learn about the role NNS apprentices played in the building of the Monitor turret tank.

The museum also has an NNS-themed scavenger hunt for families with young children. This colorful, kid-friendly quest navigates visitors through the galleries and encourages parents and children to work together to search for shipyard-related objects. They will receive a prize once completed.

Both experiences are available at the Guest Relations Desk at the museum entrance. Visit www.marinersmuseum.org for more information.
