Model of Excellence Nomination Period Opens March 2

Newport News Shipbuilding’s Model of Excellence (MOE) nomination period opens March 2 and closes April 15.

The MOE is a prestigious, competitive presidential award presented to an individual or team demonstrating excellence within NNS’ overall strategic priorities and mission, aligned with company values. Any shipbuilder may nominate another shipbuilder or project for an MOE.

MOE categories include:

  • Commitment to Performance: Recognizes an individual or team that positively impacts performance and removes barriers that hinder operational excellence.
  • Commitment to Quality: Recognizes an individual or team that demonstrates a quality-first work ethic and commitment to continuous improvement and process excellence to preserve Newport News Shipbuilding’s “Always Good Ships” legacy.
  • Commitment to Accountability: Recognizes an individual or team that models excellence by taking personal ownership and following through on commitments to internal and external customers in support of the Navy’s mission.
  • Commitment to Safety: Recognizes an individual or team that has contributed to NNS’ safety culture by innovating to keep shipbuilders safe in their daily work and/or by consistently demonstrating behaviors that model the importance of shipbuilder safety.
  • Leader of the Year: Recognizes a shipbuilder who demonstrates HII/NNS values of integrity, safety, respect, engagement, responsibility and performance in their daily work and serves as a role model for fellow shipbuilders.
  • Tradesperson of the Year: Recognizes an hourly individual who demonstrates courage, leadership, inspiration, teamwork, integrity, and other behaviors that positively change our company culture and make a difference in our community.
