A new, first-of-its-kind structure was assembled at Newport News Shipbuilding in February. The building, located near the 46th Street gate in the shipyard’s Mid-Yard, consists of 25 modular components and was delivered and assembled to structural completion in just three days.

Because of the building’s modular design, additional levels to the structure are able to be added on in the future as needed. When the building officially opens, it will serve as a pre-commissioning unit for sailors in support of the U.S. Navy’s Virginia-Class Submarine Program.
