On Wednesday, July 8, Newport News shipbuilders assembled in Applebee’s to hear from NNS leadership during the first Peer to Pier session. This new monthly engagement series focuses on sharing important information, priorities and results, and at times features Navy leaders to speak on the state of the nation and NNS’ role in defending it.
The July discussion centered on certain milestone goals, such as the delivery of Arkansas (SSN 800), and gave shipbuilders an opportunity to ask questions directly to the leadership team.
Aaron Hagewood (E84) attended the session and said that it was a strong reminder that each shipbuilder has ownership over every milestone the shipyard accomplishes.
“This place is massive and I’m one shipbuilder of many here,” he said. “Even still, we can trace our individual impact to each of the priorities mentioned.”
Hagewood also praised the format of the session.
“I have already encouraged other people to attend future sessions,” he said. “Leadership said ‘Here’s where we are, and here is where we are going.’ It made a large company feel smaller, and that was the best part about it.”
Registration for August’s Peer to Pier session will be announced in an upcoming edition of Currents.
