Brandi Smith has been named vice president of the Columbia-Class Submarine Program at Newport News Shipbuilding. She will succeed Charles Southall, who will retire July 1 after more than 35 years of distinguished service. NNS President Jennifer Boykin announced the news in a May 24 message to employees.

Smith, an NNS shipbuilder since 2002, currently serves as program director of Columbia-class construction. She will assume her new role leading company-wide management, leadership, cost, schedule and technical performance of the Columbia program June 1. Smith will report to Matt Needy, vice president of Navy Programs.
