Newport News Shipbuilding christened USS Texas (SSN 775) on July 31, 2004. It is the first Virginia-class submarine delivered by NNS and the second boat of the class.

During the event, Ship’s Sponsor first lady Laura Bush smashed a bottle of American-made sparkling wine across the bow. It was the first submarine christening at NNS in nearly a decade.
