NNS Conducting Facility Modernization Assessment

Published April 9, 2025

Beginning April 14, a cross-divisional team of shipbuilders will be conducting a large-scale facility modernization assessment across waterfront infrastructure, outdoor build sites and satellite material storage locations.

The survey is expected to last through the month of April and is the first major step in the company’s efforts to evaluate how well various facilities meet shipbuilder needs and the value each space adds to shipyard operations. Criteria for the evaluation includes facility condition, maintenance expenses and revenue generation. Surveyors will also review workflow and machinery conditions to identify opportunities for improvements.

John Glenn, director of production planning and scheduling, is eager for the project to begin. “We work in a 139-year old shipyard producing 21st century products,” Glenn said. “We want to plan for the future – the right and good way.”

Shipbuilders are encouraged to provide feedback in support of the assessment. If you know of an underused area at NNS, let the team know by emailing [email protected].
