NNS Continues Phasing Out CUAS Application

Published July 15, 2026

To streamline and accelerate the access request process, Newport News Shipbuilding’s Identity and Access Management (IAM) team is continuing efforts to phase out the Computer User Access System (CUAS) application. Once CUAS is fully retired, all access requests will be submitted via SMAX.

The next phase of this project is anticipated to go live Sunday, July 19. During this phase, users can navigate to IAM-owned offerings by visiting the SMAX Service Portal. Once in the portal, follow these steps:

  1. Select the Security & Access Control icon.
  2. Select User Access Request.
  3. Select the name of the user for whom access is being requested.
  4. Under “Access Location,” select NNS/On-Prem.
  5. Under “What is being requested,” select Application Access or Active Directory Access.

As CUAS request types are moved into SMAX, they will no longer be available in the CUAS dropdown selection.

For more information, contact Jenni Kresge (T51). Any changes to ownership/pre-approvals for active directory (AD) groups can be made via a SMAX Group (Create/Modify/Delete) ticket.
