NNS Instituting Liberal Leave for Second and Third Shift on Thursday, Feb. 20

Published February 20, 2025

Now that the brunt of the storm has passed, the sun is out, and essential personnel are working hard to keep our facility safe, we are making the following updates regarding operations.

Because our Navy’s mission to defend our nation never stops, it is important we get back to our job of building ships. Given road conditions are not yet consistently safe across our region, we will transition to liberal leave for second and third shifts today, Feb. 20. This means you may return to work if you are able, or use liberal leave.

We will continue to monitor conditions and will provide an update regarding operations for Friday, Feb. 21, later this evening.

As a reminder, parking in NNS lots will remain open during liberal leave. Shipbuilders can park in any space in NNS lots on a first-come, first-served basis. Open parking does not apply to spaces identified as 24-hour reserved, spaces used by government and U.S. Navy personnel, HII Family Health Center parking, privately owned and leased lots, expectant mother, visitor and handicap spaces. NNS shuttle service remains suspended.

Shipyard crews are working to clear NNS roadways and parking lots. Employees who report to work are reminded to stay on the sidewalks that have been cleared as they enter and exit the shipyard.

NNS employees working at offsite locations such as Norfolk Naval Shipyard and Naval Station Norfolk should follow offsite location reporting direction.

Future updates will be communicated via the following channels: Employee Information Phone Line (1-877-871-2058), NNS to Go app, company email, NNS President Kari Wilkinson’s Facebook page and NNS websites.
