NNS Launching New Hidens Shuttle Program
Published June 24, 2026
With safety and convenience for shipbuilders in mind, Newport News Shipbuilding is launching a new Direct Shuttle pilot program from Hidens to stops inside the gates in the North Yard.
Starting Monday, June 29, shipbuilders who park at Hidens will board shuttles that travel to the following stops inside the shipyard:
- Joint Manufacturing Assembly Facility (JMAF)
- Steel Production Facility (SPF)
- Outfitting Berth 1 (OB1)
NNS Security will be on-site from 4 to 6 a.m. to scan shipbuilders’ badges before they board shuttles at the three Hidens shuttle stops. Shipbuilders will not be permitted to board without active badges.
“Many shipbuilders park in Hidens and walk across heavily-traveled streets to the North Yard gates,” said Paul Lindgren (K97), director of facilities and real estate. “Our hope is that these shuttles will make getting to work safer and easier for our shipbuilders.”
Other NNS shuttles will continue to run their normal routes during this pilot. Send questions or feedback regarding NNS shuttles to [email protected].
