NNS Meeting Policy Update from Dru Branche

Published March 29, 2021

Dear Shipbuilders,
We are pleased to learn that Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam is beginning to lift COVID-19 restrictions in light of vaccine availability and downward trends in positive cases across the state. While this is a welcome sign that we are headed in the right direction, these changes do not impact Newport News Shipbuilding’s current restrictions on in-person meetings, trainings and other gatherings, including holiday celebrations, and employee and retirement recognition events.

Effective April 1, the maximum number of people allowed at social gatherings in Virginia will increase from 10 to 50 people for indoor settings and from 25 to 100 people for outdoor environments. NNS’ restriction on in-person meetings will remain at 25 people in space large enough to maintain 6 feet of social distance. For more information on NNS’ COVID-19 gathering protocol, visit the Environmental, Health and Safety (O27) website on MyNNS.

It’s important NNS stay the course. Few meeting spaces exist at NNS where 30% of the maximum capacity would exceed 25 people, and we are already operating proportionally based on the maximum capacity of our meeting rooms with social distancing in mind.

Getting vaccinated, wearing a mask and social distancing are our best weapons against COVID-19. With continued vigilance, we will soon return to a greater sense of normalcy.

Sincerely,
Dru Branche
