Newport News Shipbuilding is closely monitoring Tropical Storm Elsa. Given the potential for Hampton Roads to experience inclement weather later this week, NNS has begun its preliminary storm preparations. At 2 p.m. today, the shipyard went into “Condition 4,” indicating potential impacts from a storm are 72 or more hours away.

Based on the current forecast, NNS remains open and is conducting normal operations. NNS will continue to monitor conditions and if shipyard operations are impacted due to inclement weather, information will be communicated via the following company communication channels:

All departments should review and begin preliminary implementation of their severe weather checklists in order to make advanced preparations for employee safety throughout the facility, including the waterfront. If there are specific actions for employees to take in their work area, they will be notified by their supervisor.
