Newport News Shipbuilding is offering $500 sign-on bonuses to specific trades trainee and entry-level new hires and $1,000 sign-on bonuses for specific experienced trades new hires. Job seekers who apply before Dec. 31 are eligible for the bonuses.

The specific trades positions include: fitters (X11); welders (X18); deck electricians (X31); sheet metal workers (X32); marine painters; blasters and insulators (X33); riggers (X36), pipefitters (X42); and outside machinists, refuelers and ship safety watch (X43).

The sign-on bonuses are for external new hires. Current NNS employees are ineligible.

“NNS needs to hire hundreds of trades employees by the end of this year,” said Cindi Wolfe, director of HRIS, Learning and Development, and Talent Acquisition. “We’re excited about being able to offer these sign-on bonuses to keep us competitive and encourage more candidates to apply and start working for NNS.”

In addition, NNS also is offering $500 cash bonus awards to NNS employees who refer trades candidates who are hired. Referrals must be submitted through the internal employee Careers site signing in with their MyHR ID and must be submitted by Dec. 31. Employees will be required to submit a copy of their referral’s resume, which is a system requirement. Both the referral and job seeker’s application must be submitted before the job posting deadline.
