NNS President Meets With Interns

Newport News Shipbuilding’s summer interns met with NNS President Jennifer Boykin June 15.

“There is a lot of reverse mentoring going on when we have interns here,” Boykin said. “You are at the forefront of your professional experience no matter where you go from here.”

The 25 interns are expected to learn the company’s core values while working in their respective home departments. Boykin encouraged interns to bring fresh ideas to engineering projects and Integrated Digital Shipbuilding (iDS).

“I am excited to learn the ins and outs of my department,” said Carlos Lavezzari Torres, a reactor plant planning intern who attends the University of Puerto Rico. “Being at the shipyard makes me want to learn more about how the real world works.”

Interns will engage in community outreach activities later this summer.
