NNS Security Updates
Published May 16, 2025
Shipbuilders,
The work we do at Newport News Shipbuilding is extraordinary, and we must protect our shipbuilders, our platforms and our information accordingly. Anyone – shipbuilders, partners and visitors alike – who doesn’t adhere to our high security standards will not be allowed access to NNS. Our mission is too critical for anything less.
Our NNS security team has begun conducting random security checks in various locations throughout our facility. This was not the result of a specific threat or concern. Rather, these checks will become a routine part of our operations going forward.
Additionally, I am pleased to share with you that the Federal Aviation Administration recently designated new special security instructions (SSI) that prohibit the general public from flying any small unmanned aircraft over NNS’ airspace without the appropriate written permission from Supervisor of Shipbuilding Newport News (SUPSHIPNN). If you see a drone over or on the boundaries of our shipyard, please report it to our Security Control Center at 757-380-4031.
Thank you for doing your part to keep our standards high and our facility secure. You aren’t just protecting our shipyard and fellow shipbuilders – you are protecting our national security.
As always, if you see something that doesn’t seem right, speak up and report it.
Respectfully,
Karey Malyszko
Vice President, Quality, Process Excellence and Plant Operations
