Rachel Darnell (O59), the Supply Chain community service lead, collaborated with team members to set up a Valentine’s Day card-creating station, allowing employees to craft heartfelt cards for residents of local nursing homes.
A drop box allowed employees to contribute cards throughout the month, ensuring greater participation.
John Witherspoon assisted Darnell by coordinating with the Supply Chain Management Logistics team to help with the cards, ensuring the process ran smoothly and efficiently.
The effort resulted in more than 400 cards, far exceeding the initial goal of 150. It enabled the team to reach additional nursing homes and brighten the days of more residents.
One of the most touching aspects of this initiative was feedback from employees who participated during their lunch breaks. Many said the experience was unexpectedly therapeutic, offering a peaceful break in their busy day. Others fondly recalled childhood memories of making homemade cards, and said the activity brought back a sense of nostalgia and joy. This effort not only benefited the community, but it fostered connections and well-being within the team.
On Feb. 13, members of the engagement team had the honor of delivering the cards to local nursing homes. Knowing that these simple, heartfelt gestures brought smiles and comfort to so many made the effort truly worthwhile. It showcased the power of coming together as a community, proving once again that small acts of kindness make a big impact.
