NNS Thanks Volunteers

Last week, Newport News Shipbuilding hosted an NNS Gives volunteer appreciation event at Coastal Fermentory to thank the shipbuilders who volunteer in support of various causes in the community.

The event, coordinated by Corporate Citizenship (K18), was held in conjunction with National Volunteer Month in April. It also provided $700 in donations for the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank. Coastal donated 10% of beer sales and tips and shipbuilders gave via a donation jar. Donna Tighe, the foodbank’s director of Development, was on-site and set up a table with information and giveaways.

“Volunteering is an important part of a healthy work/life balance, and I’d recommend everyone take part in some way, shape, or form. It was nice to recognize these individuals who take time out of their busy lives and schedules to give back to the community, and at the same time support the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank. I look forward to more opportunities in the future to volunteer alongside these dedicated people,” said Ryan L. Pritchard, who volunteered at the event.

Volunteers from the FitNNS employee resource group served food and gave out swag bags to attendees. Shipbuilders are encouraged to visit nns.YourCause.com to search for and sign up for volunteer opportunities.
