Earth Day is Wednesday, April 22, and the annual Newport News Shipbuilding Earth Day events will take place that day. April 23 is the rain date.

This year, in addition to cleanups at Huntington Beach, outside the gates from 37th to 50th streets, and Bldg. 600, O27 Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) is also seeking volunteers to help install markers that were made from last year’s coloring contest on storm drains across the yard.

EH&S needs volunteers at each site for check-in/check-out and to help coordinate the groups installing storm drain markers. Shipbuilders who would like to help should sign up on MyNNS.

There is also a coloring contest for kids ages 4-17. Coloring pages are located on the right side of the Earth Day page.

Guests are welcome at the cleanups, but they must be signed up and have a model release form complete. Guests are not allowed inside the gates for the storm drain marker installations.
