NNS’ Tobacco-Free Policy Begins Monday

Published July 8, 2022

Shipbuilders,

Starting Monday, Newport News Shipbuilding will be a tobacco-free facility. We announced this five-year goal in 2016, and since then we’ve put various tobacco-related policies and programs in place to better support the safety and health of our shipbuilders and our work environment. Now, as a tobacco-free facility, we can best achieve our No Fail Mission to improve performance and quality across the shipyard.

Under our new policy, NNS prohibits the use of tobacco products on company property and on company time. This is a zero-tolerance policy, so I encourage you to review SSO 02-212 Tobacco-Free Policy and the frequently asked questions that detail the policy’s scope.

Additionally, those who wish to quit tobacco use are encouraged to take advantage of tobacco cessation resources available through the company’s health and wellness benefits. As a reminder, employees do not have to quit tobacco use entirely to remain employed at NNS.

Thank you for your cooperation with this policy and your efforts to best serve our shipbuilders and Navy customer. Together, we can make a stronger shipyard for the future.

Respectfully,
Xavier Beale
Vice President, Human Resources and Trades
