Operations Update Due to Winter Storm
Published February 18, 2025
Given the impending snow forecast, we are making the following changes to Newport News Shipbuilding operations to ensure shipbuilder safety:
Feb. 19
- First shift: We are instituting liberal leave. You may report to work as scheduled or use liberal leave.
- Second shift: Only essential personnel should report.
- Third shift (beginning at 11 p.m., Feb. 19): Only essential personnel should report.
- Charging guidance will be provided in a separate communication.
For second and third shifts, your supervisor will notify you if you are considered essential and are required to work during this time. If your supervisor does not contact you, you should not report to work.
The work we perform is critical to the U.S. Navy and our nation’s defense. Therefore, we will continue to monitor conditions and provide another update on Wednesday, no later than 6 p.m.
Until we return to normal operations, please note the following:
- Parking in NNS lots will remain open. Shipbuilders can park in any space in NNS lots on a first-come, first-served basis. Open parking does not apply to spaces identified as 24-hour reserved, spaces used by government and U.S. Navy personnel, HII Family Health Center parking, privately owned and leased lots, expectant mother, visitor and handicap spaces.
- NNS shuttle services will be suspended.
NNS employees working at offsite locations such as Norfolk Naval Shipyard and Naval Station Norfolk should follow offsite location reporting direction.
If you’re reporting to work, please use extreme caution and heed all VDOT warnings.
Future updates will be communicated via the following channels: Employee Information Phone Line (1-877-871-2058), NNS to Go app, company email, NNS President Kari Wilkinson’s Facebook page and NNS websites.
