Dear Shipbuilders,

In 2016, we were fortunate to have Susan Jacobs join Newport News Shipbuilding as vice president of Human Resources and Administration. She came to us from Ingalls Shipbuilding and has served as a valued member of my team – leading us through two labor negotiations, a global pandemic and all of the daily HR responsibilities of a 25,000-person workforce.

Effective April 1, Susan will return home to Ingalls to serve as their vice president of Human Resources, following Edmond Hughes’ promotion to HII vice president and chief human resources officer. While it is bittersweet for her to leave us, it is a wonderful opportunity for both Susan and Ingalls Shipbuilding, and I am confident the experience she’s gained over the past five and a half years with NNS will provide continued alignment and sharing of best practices across both shipyards.

Please join me in thanking Susan for her distinguished service to our shipyard and our shipbuilders. We will spend the next month working together on a transition plan and provide more details once the new NNS vice president of Human Resources and Administration is selected.
