Plan to Participate in Relay For Life
Published March 12, 2025
Newport News Shipbuilding is again joining forces with the American Cancer Society to sponsor the 2025 Relay For Life. This year’s theme is Game Over: Let’s End Cancer, a nod to the 1980s when video games gained popularity.
Shipbuilders can join in the spirit while doing their part to beat cancer. It is easy to create a NNS Relay For Life fundraising team. Follow these steps:
- Come up with a cool team name, and feel free to reflect the 1980s theme.
- Visit the Relay For Life site on MyNNS or go directly to RelayForLife.org/nns.
- Under “Join Us,” type in “Newport News” and select the Relay For Life Virginia Peninsula.
- Follow the registration steps and share your team link with your department, coworkers, friends and family.
- Attend the Relay For Life Internal Kick-off event on March 26, at Bldg. 888 (Brooks Crossing) from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Learn about being a team captain and celebrate a new campaign.
- Use the Relay For Life resources on the MyNNS site for ideas to grow your team support and raise funds.
This year’s event will be held on May 17 at Tabb High School, located at 4431 Big Bethel Road in Yorktown, from 5 to 9 p.m.
All shipbuilders are encouraged to participate in this NNS Gives-sponsored program by joining a team, donating, purchasing T-shirts and contributing to the luminarias that will line the stadium in remembrance of those that have been affected by cancer.
More than 3 million people worldwide participate in Relay For Life events each year, raising money to support the American Cancer Society’s mission to ensure everyone has an opportunity to prevent, detect, treat and survive cancer.
