Pursue a Master’s Degree with the Technical Graduate Partnership Programs

Published July 16, 2025

Newport News Shipbuilding’s Technical Graduate Partnership (TGP) is a collaboration with four universities to offer shipbuilders seven graduate degree programs.

Two of these universities – Old Dominion University and George Washington University – will be on-site to host an information session at 3 p.m. on July 24 in the VASCIC auditorium.

TGP benefits include:

  • Completion of a master’s degree in three years.
  • Special tuition treatment and inclusive of all cost.
  • Class scheduling, location and logistics especially suited for NNS working professionals.
  • Execution of the program as a team (cohort) of NNS working professionals.
  • A technical master’s degree in programs specifically selected as vital to NNS technical bench strength.
  • Special consideration for acceptance into the partnership universities.

TGP programs have been developed to address NNS core business, identified discipline challenge areas and known customer technology gaps. The program recognizes the challenge an employee must endure when pursuing a technical degree and is designed to mitigate certain known challenges.

Education assistance is recognized as a valuable benefit and is an investment in the company’s future. NNS relies on the ingenuity and knowledge of its shipbuilders, and encourages them to use the education assistance program to improve their knowledge through degree programs and individual classes.

Through the TGP program, ODU offers a Master of Science in electrical and computer engineering with a concentration in instrumentation, controls and networks. GWU offers a Master of Science in electrical and computer engineering with a concentration in shipboard power.
