Remembering 9/11

Published September 8, 2021

Saturday marks 20 years since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, during which nearly 3,000 people died. Newport News Shipbuilding will honor those lost during the attacks with a whistle blow.

The shipyard whistle will sound for 20 seconds on Saturday, Sept. 11, at 8:46 a.m. – the same time hijackers crashed the first plane into the north tower of the World Trade Center 20 years ago.

Those working on Saturday are asked to observe a moment of silence.
