REMINDER: NNS Badge Policy
Published November 12, 2025
Several recent submissions to the MyIdea program have addressed the policy around Newport News Shipbuilding’s identification badges. Shipbuilders are encouraged to review the following reminders and ensure they are following the company’s badge policies while they are inside and outside of the facility.
- An NNS badge or pass should only be used by the person to whom it is issued. Badge holders should obey all access control requirements, and ensure that the badge or pass is not used to access any area they are not authorized to enter.
- NNS identification badges and passes must be displayed in plain sight on the front of the torso between the shoulders and waist at all times while on company premises, except when prohibited by working conditions. Badges worn on the arm affixed with arm bands are not approved.
- Badges or passes should be removed from plain sight when not on NNS property, and they should not be photographed, photocopied or otherwise reproduced.
- Shipbuilders should safeguard their badges, and avoid storing them in places where they could be stolen, such as a parked vehicle. Immediately report any lost, misused or damaged badges or passes to any manager in Security and Emergency Management (O15) or to the Security Control Center (SCC) at 757-380-4031.
