REMINDER: Parking Enforcement
Published January 28, 2026
Newport News Shipbuilding continues to experience extensive parking violations. These violations create frustration for shipbuilders who follow the rules, undermine the company’s messages of accountability, and create hazards in parking lots and garages. NNS is partnering with David’s Towing Service to privatize towing to increase enforcement.
What this Means
David’s Towing will patrol NNS lots and garages for parking violations on all shifts, beginning Monday, Feb. 2. Vehicles parked illegally will be towed at the owner’s expense.
How to Avoid Being Towed
All shipbuilders should have a company hangtag (issued by Parking Solutions) with a unique hangtag number that identifies vehicles parked on NNS property. Per policy, this hangtag is required to be displayed in the front windshield, either by hanging it from the rearview mirror or placing it on the dashboard, with the number clearly visible.
Frequent parking violations that could result in towing include:
- Vehicle parked in handicap space without both DMV and NNS handicap hangtags.
- Parking in non-designated areas within the company or leased parking lots (e.g. grassy areas that are not spaces, striped-line no parking areas).
- Vehicle parked in wrong zone prior to or after open parking.
- Open parking begins after 1 p.m. and ends at 1 a.m.
- Common zone violations:
- Zone B parked in Zone A
- Zone 2 parked in Zone 1
- Zone 1 or 2 parked in Zone B
- Zone B parked in Zone 1 or 2
- Zone 6 parked in Zone B
- Zone B parked in Zone 6
If Your Vehicle is Towed
If your vehicle is towed from an NNS parking lot or garage, contact David’s Towing at 757-595-7290. Hourly shipbuilders wishing to dispute their tow should contact their Labor Relations representative. Salaried shipbuilders wishing to dispute their tow should contact NNS Security. David’s Towing will collect photo evidence of each violation prior to towing.
Please Note: This information applies only to NNS-owned and leased lots and garages. If your vehicle is towed from a city street, contact the Newport News Police Department.
