Jim Kelly, PE, O40 Plant Engineering manager at Newport News Shipbuilding, was recently elected vice president for the southern zone of the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) at the NCEES Joint Zone Meeting in Houston, Texas.

NCEES is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing licensure for engineers and surveyors. It also is the organization that administers the professional engineering and professional surveying exams in the United States. Kelly will represent the professional engineering and professional surveying licensing boards for the southern zone on the NCEES National Board of Directors.

The southern zone includes 15 states from Virginia to the Virgin Islands and west to Texas and Oklahoma. Kelly has been an NNS shipbuilder for 21 years and currently chairs the Virginia licensing board for architects, professional engineers, land surveyors, certified interior designers and landscape architects.
