Shipbuilder Steering the Way

Phil Caralla was recently recognized by the “On-the-Spot” Ethics Recognition Program for coming to the aid of a fellow shipbuilder who was seriously ill.

Last November, Caralla walked past a shipbuilder’s office and noticed him sitting on the floor. Caralla immediately entered the office and began asking the shipbuilder if he needed help. It turns out, the shipbuilder had fallen out of his chair and was so ill he didn’t have the strength to pick himself up.

Caralla helped the shipbuilder to his chair and called 911. He then helped guide paramedics to the shipbuilder’s location. Because of the actions of Caralla and his team, the shipbuilder – who was seriously ill and battling two different viruses – was able to get the medical attention he needed.

Damon Saetre, vice president of Integrated Planning and Production Control, met with Caralla to thank him for his actions and present his award.
